Agar.io, çevrimiçiçok oyunculu bir strateji ve aksiyon oyunudur. Brezilyalı oyun geliştiricisi Matheus Valadares tarafından geliştirilen oyun, 28 Nisan 2015'te ağ tarayıcıları, 8 Temmuz 2015'te ise Miniclip tarafından iOS ve Android platformları için yayımlandı. Oyunda oyuncular, bir petri kabını temsil eden bir haritada bir veya daha fazla dairesel hücreyi kontrol ederler. Oyundaki amaç, oyuncunun kontrol ettiği hücreden daha küçük olan agar ile hücreleri yiyerek ve kendi hücrelerini yiyebilecek daha büyük hücrelerden kaçınarak, mümkün olduğunca fazla kütle kazanmaktır. Her oyuncu bir hücre ile başlar, ancak oyuncular yeterli bir kütleye ulaştığında oyuncuların bir hücreyi bölerek birden fazla hücreyi kontrol etmelerine izin verilebilir. Oyunun ismi, bakterileri kültürleme için kullanılan agar maddesinden gelmektedir.

FFA: Her oyuncunun tek ve birbirlerine rakip olduğu moddur.
Takımlı: Oyuncular, üç farklı renk olan takımlardan birisine rastgele olarak atanır. Aynı renge sahip oyuncuların birbirlerini yiyemediği ve yalnızca farklı renklerdeki oyuncuların birbirlerini yiyebildiği moddur.
Deneysel: Oyun içinde küçük parçalar üreten üreteçlerin bulunduğu bir moddur. Bu sayede hücre daha hızlı büyür.
Parti: FFA modu ile aynı özelliklere sahip olmakla birlikte bu mod, bir bağlantı (URL) oluşturarak bu bağlantının paylaşıldığı kişilerle aynı sunucu üzerinden oynamaya olanak sağlar.
Battle Royale: Arenanın belirli aralıklarla daraldığı, kaybedenin yeniden doğmadığı ve sona kalanın kazandığı oyun modudur.[9]
Rush: Oyuncunun, olabildiğince fazla kütle kazanması için 5 dakikasının olduğu moddur. Oyun bittikten sonra sonuçlar ilk 10 kişiyi kapsar.[10]

Battle Royale is the fifth game mode (and first by Miniclip) added to the browser version of Agar.io. Across all platforms, Battle Royale is the 6th game mode added to Agar.io overall. The mobile exclusive Rush Mode is the last mode added. Battle Royale was released in May 2018 for browser and in March 2019 for mobile devices. Winning a battle royale match is awarded with a battle potion.

In early April 2018, an announcement photo was posted on Agar.io's official Facebook page. Its motto was : "Can you survive the battleground?" Battle Royale was officially released about a month later. In March 2019, Battle Royale was added to the mobile version. It is one of three game modes available for that platform, the two others being Classic and Rush.
Description[]
This game mode follows the basic Battle Royale format used in many first-person shooter (FPS) games. The arena will shrink at set intervals with only one winner at the end. A player loses the match when eaten (by a cell or spawner) or by staying outside the safe zone for too long. Battle Royale uses the same arena and mechanics as Experimental Mode. To maintain balance, this is the only game mode that does not allow Mass Boosts.
Battle Royale has two phases: Warm-up (Pre-match) and Battle. During the warm-up phase, players can explore the arena while waiting for the match to begin. Players can see, but not interact with other cells, pellets or viruses at this time. The match will begin once at least 20 players join the arena. The location of each player is also reset as the match begins.

At the very beginning, focus on getting mass by collecting pellets. It might be smart to look for spawners (mother cells) in the warm up phase and then to go to them after the start, if any are nearby.
As soon as you gained more than 132 mass, move over a virus to eat it.
But in general, always prefer to eat spawners, because they will add more mass (250). You need about 300 mass to eat a spawner.
When split in more than one piece, you may feed all but one pieces to a spawner. Then eat the spawned pellets. This might save time in comparison to wait for the merging of the cells. However, there is a risk of another, bigger player trying to eat the ejected pellets.
In general, "economy" is key in the early and mid game. Therefore, focus more on eating viruses and spawners than splitting a lot to eat opponent players. Remember that viruses do not poison you when you are split in 16 pieces.
Shooting viruses against other players usually costs a lot of mass and therefore should be avoided and only used when it is worth the mass loss
In the end game, avoid splitting, as the merging needs a long time when you are big.
In the end game, if some player is bigger than you, you can try to team with smaller players and they can help you to eat bigger one.
If - during the final stage - there is you and another big cell of similiar size, make sure you are exactly in the center of the save area when the size of the area decreases. The opponent cell will be hit by the danger zone earlier and explode. The pieces of the opponent will feed you and you will eat the opponent.
If things go bad and you are forced to battle a bigger player in the small area that's left, you can make a break for the nearest Spawner. If you constantly feed the spawner mass while at the same time collecting the pellets it shoots out, you can maintain your cell a pretty long time while in the red area.
Before and during the round, take notes of all the spawners on the map in order to know where to go in case things lead to this point.
