MAYOR GÜNEL HAS PRESSED THE BUTTON TO RENOVATE KUŞADASI’S OLDEST TOURISTIC BAZAAR
Kuşadası Municipality has pressed the button to renew the area known as the Grand and Orient Bazaar. In the project, which will be implemented in order to make Kuşadası amore modern and aesthetic tourism city, the infrastructure and superstructure of an area of approximately 2,500 square meters will be renewed in the first stage of the planned works. When the works are completed, Kuşadası will welcome foreign tourists who come to the city by cruise ships with a magnificent view.
In Turkey’s tourism capital of Kuşadası, the service mobilization initiated by Mayor Ömer Günel, who has been working for the change and development of the city since he took office, continues in full speed. Mayor Ömer Günel, working to make Kuşadası a more modern and aesthetic tourism city, gave the start of the ‘Grand and Orient Bazaar Street Rehabilitation’ project. Mayor Ömer Günel, who came together with the tradesmen of the region, whose infrastructure and superstructure will be renewed, by holding a meeting in the historical Caravanserai, informed the tradesmen about the works to be carried out and exchanged ideas.
The meeting was attended by Mayor Ömer Günel, Deputy Mayors Oğuzhan Turan, Seyfi Seyhan Suvari, Remzi Çengel, Acting Mayor of Kuşadası Tibet Özer, Member of Kuşadası Municipality Council and Chairman of the City Aesthetics Board, Master Architect Cumhur Ulusoy, Member of the City Aesthetics Board Ali Genç, head of municipal departments, Kuşadası Chamber of Commerce (KUTO) President Serdar Akdogan, Kuşadası Chauffeurs Chamber President Hüsnü Oten, Kuşadası Tradesmen and Craftsmen Credit and Guarantee Cooperative President Halit Şakar and many tradesmen.
WORKS WILL BEGIN IN COOPERATION WITH METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY
The first stage of the project will consist of soil removal, levelling and excavation works of the region after which drinking water lines and rain water lines will be laid by Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Water and Sewerage Administration (ASKİ) and Kuşadası Municipality Public Works and Engineering Department teams respectively. In the works where electricity, telephone and internet lines will be renewed and taken underground by the relevant institutions, natural stone coverings will be laid on the streets and landscaping works will be carried out. The lighting systems in the Orient and Grand Bazaar will also be renewed and the façade arrangements of the enterprises will be harmonized with each other. The planned project works will then be finalised with the bazaar being covered with a wooden lantern roof system to keep it cool in summer. Renovation works will continue in the Hacıfeyzullah, Dağ, Camiatik and Alacamescit districts.
“IT WILL BE A CENTER OF ATTRACTION AGAIN”
Speaking at the meeting, Mayor Ömer Günel stating that no investment has been made in the region where the works were planned to be started for past 53 years said;
“We renovated most of the touristic bazaars in our city in cooperation with Aydın Metropolitan Municipality last year. We promised our tradesmen that we would renovate the area where the Grand and Orient Bazaar is located. Now we are happy to have kept this promise. The first dig of the area, within the scope of the project, will start on Thursday. Despite all the economic negativities that Turkey is going through, as Kuşadası Municipality, we always do our best to be with our tradesmen. When the works are completed, the Grand and Orient Bazaar will be a centre of attraction especially for tourists disembarking from cruise ships.
“I AM SURE YOU WILL COOPERATE”
Mayor Ömer Günel, who stated that the tradesmen should also complete the window and facade arrangements during the renovation works of the Grand and Orient Bazar, said;
“As I have often stated before, we will never compromise on zero occupation. It is not possible for us to show privilege or favour anyone in this regard. I am sure that our tradesmen will take put their hands under the stone and cooperate with us on the façade arrangements.”
TRADESMEN EXPRESSED HAPPINESS AND THANKED THE MAYOR
After the presentation, Mayor Ömer Günel and Public Works and Engineering Department Head Fatma Çanakçı answered the questions of the tradesmen about the project. Expressing that they were very happy with the planned renovation of the area where their shops are located, the tradesmen of the region thanked Mayor Ömer Günel, who provided detailed information about the works to be carried out.
