Öz: Bu makale Tokat ilinin Zile ilçesinin İslamiyet öncesi ve sonrası tarihi dönemlerini Osmanlılar döneminde önemli bir şehir olan Zile'nin, İslâmiyet'ten önceki dönemlerde yaşadığı parlak devir İslâmî devirde diger Anadolu şehirlerinin gelişmesiyle yavaş yavaş kaybolmuştur. Şehirdeki panayır çok eski çağlardan beri burayı canlı bir ticaret merkezi yapmıştır. Bu canlılık şehrin ekonomik ve askeri yönden güçlü olmasını sağlamıştır. Müstahkem kalesi de buranın alınmasını güçleştirmiştir. Abstract: This article compares the pre-Islamic and Islamic periods of Zile district of Tokat province. Zile an important city during the times of Hittite, Phrygia, Persian, Greek, Pontus, Roman, Byzantian, Muslim Arabian, Seljuks, Seigniories and Ottomons but its significance faded away in Islamic priods as other Anatolian cities gained prominence. The city fair since the ancient age has not only made Zile a vibrant trade center but also a powerful economic and military center. Its well-fortified castle also made it difficult to be conquered.
